CHEAP BROADWAY TICKETS

(November 5, 2018)

If you’re planning a Theatre Weekend to New York, be prepared for some major sticker shock!  Broadway show prices are sky-rocketing:  the average price may be about $110, but Orchestra seats for Hamilton top $800, and a similar seat for the play To Kill A Mockingbird is nearly $400.

Even Rear Mezzanine seats for popular shows can be more than $100 these days!

So is there a trick to finding discounted seats?

Okay, I’m just going to be frank:  for non-New York area-based Theatre Weekenders wanting to get discount tickets to Broadway shows, it’s a bit of a “good news/bad news” situation.

The good news is that there are lot of schemes for getting discounted tickets on Broadway these days — in fact, more than ever before! There are ticket Apps, discount ticket booths, ticket lotteries, and more.

But the bad news is that very few discount schemes will allow you to book a reserved ticket in advance.  The discount ticket business is largely geared toward filling empty Broadway seats last-minute.

So if you’re planning a trip from out-of-town and want to be certain you’ll wind up with enough tickets to justify the cost of travel (hotel, airfare, etc.), you may find obtaining discount tickets quite challenging.

Or at least to a degree.

We’ve put together a whole new page on finding less expensive tickets… so let’s dive in, fellow Theatre Nerds!
