After a smash-hit run Off-Broadway, Harvey Fierstein’s Torch Song heads to Broadway for a strictly limited engagement. This critically acclaimed production of the Tony Award®-winning comedy stars Drama Desk Award winner Michael Urie (“Ugly Betty,” Buyer & Cellar) and Academy Award® and Tony® winner Mercedes Ruehl (The Fisher King, Lost in Yonkers) and is directed by Tony® nominee Moisés Kaufman (The Laramie Project, I Am My Own Wife).

Hilarious and heart-wrenching, Torch Song follows Arnold Beckoff’s odyssey to find happiness in New York. All he wants is a husband, a child and a pair of bunny slippers that fit, but a visit from his overbearing mother reminds him that he needs one thing more: respect.

Torch Song is recommended for ages 12+ up due to adult situations and language. No one under age 4 will be permitted in the theatre.

Harvey Fierstein's award-winning play returns to the theatre where it had its first Broadway run in 1982! After a successful 2017 Off-Broadway revival at 2nd Stage's Tony Kiser Theatre, the same cast is returning for its run at the Helen Hayes Theatre, including Tony® winner Michael Urie ('Ugly Betty') and Tony® winner Mercedes Ruehl. Although at times the show feels dated, its themes are timeless: a gay man's search for love and respect while single-handedly raising a child under the watchful eye of his over-bearing, opinionated mother! As Producer Richie Jackson told the NY TIMES earlier this year: "No matter what family you’re a part of, you’re going to see your family up there on the stage.” And that couldn't be more true. You'll run the gambit of emotions during this show -- laughter, tears, and laughter-through tears -- and you'll be thinking about what "family" means in the 21st century for days to come.
