Phantom of the Opera Poster

Based on the 1910 horror novel by Gaston Leroux, which has been adapted into countless films, The Phantom of the Opera follows a deformed composer who haunts the grand Paris Opera House. Sheltered from the outside world in an underground cavern, the lonely, romantic man tutors and composes operas for Christine, a gorgeous young soprano star-to-be. As Christine’s star rises, and a handsome suitor from her past enters the picture, the Phantom grows mad, terrorizing the opera house owners and company with his murderous ways. Still, Christine finds herself drawn to the mystery man.

The Phantom of the Opera, winner of 70 major theatre awards — including seven 1988 Tony Awards®️ including Best Musical — and now the longest running show in Broadway history.

Phantom of the Opera is suitable for ages 7+, although parents are advised that there are a few design elements and special effects that may frighten young children.  No one under age 4 admitted in the theatre.

My THEATRE WEEKEND

OUR TAKE

The Phantom of the Opera is Broadway’s longest running musical with over 12,000 performances. It’s a global phenomenon having grossed over $6 billion worldwide — and is still a near sell-out every week.

Based on Gaston Leroux’s lush, romantic novel of the same name, the musical has been wowing audiences with its operatic arias and thrilling stagecraft (including the infamous crashing chandelier) since 1986.

Although the show now seems to sell an awful lot of tickets to large tour groups, you’ll still find plenty of “Phans” (or “Phanatics”) coming to see the show for their 5th (of 25th) time. The timeless story will enthrall you — and about half-way through the show, you’ll realize that you are humming along with all the songs, which you never realized you knew every word to!
