Company, Stephen Sondheim and George Furth’s groundbreaking musical comedy, starring Tony® and Grammy® Award winner Katrina Lenk and Two-time Tony® Award and two-time Grammy® Award winner Patti LuPone (in the role that won her the Olivier) returns to Broadway.

It’s Bobbie’s 35th birthday party, and all her friends keep asking why isn’t she married? Why can’t she find the right man? Isn’t it time she settle down and start a family? But Bobbie isn’t ready to commit. All her friends’ poking and prodding really could drive a person crazy!

The vision of two-time Tony® Award-winning director Marianne Elliott (War Horse, The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nighttime, Angels in America), this production of Company sheds revelatory light onto classic songs such as the acerbic “The Ladies Who Lunch” and the iconic “Being Alive.” Being married in 21st-Century New York has never been this fun. Let’s all drink to that!

Company is recommended for kids 8 +.  Children under the age of 4 are not permitted in the theatre.

My THEATRE WEEKEND

OUR TAKE

Lupone!  Lenk!  Sondheim!  I mean, could we be any more excited?!

I saw director Marianne Elliott’s production of COMPANY in London — I hesitate to say “this production” of COMPANY since they creative team has promised the Broadway version will include “changes based on what we learned in the West End” — and just loved it.

Elliott took the lead role “Bobby” — a man in the original Hal Prince directed production — and made the lead “Bobbie,” a single woman (while, I might add, giving the same gender-swap  to several other key roles in the show).  The result was a fresh interpretation of the show’s core universal subject matter:  the crisis (and sheer panic) every single person turning 30 experiences.

Katrina Lenk (who we loved in THE BAND’S VISIT, and who was rewarded with a Tony® for her performance in that show) takes on the role of ‘Bobbie’, which had been brilliantly played by Rosalie Craig in London.  Patti Lupone reprises her show-stopping and Olivier Award-winning performance as ‘Joanne.”

This show is sure to be one of the most buzzed-about Broadway musical of the season.

It’s showtime, folks! Beetlejuice is ruder, raunchier and frankly, more repellent than ever in this original musical based on Tim Burton’s wonderfully demented film. Directed by Alex Timbers (Moulin Rouge!)
