Broadway’s Come From Away is the Tony Award winning Best Musical that takes you into the heart of the remarkable true story of 7,000 stranded passengers and the small town in Newfoundland that welcomed them. The show tells the relatively unknown story of the 38 planes (holding 6,500+ passengers) which were forced to land in Gander, Newfoundland, on 9/11 when the FAA closed U.S. airspace. The small town — with a population of only 10,000 — banded together to take the stranded passengers into their homes, and cared for them for 5 days. Relationships started and life-long bonds of friendship were created in the shadow of America’s biggest tragedy.
Brought to life by a dynamic, multi-generational, diverse cast, the moving score by David Hein and Irene Sankoff (who also penned the story) reminds us that even in the worst of times, human kindness can persevere.
